President Hugo Chávez not to attend Mercosur summit
President Hugo Chávez arrived in Venezuela from Cuba at around 2:30 am in the early hours of Friday, state-run television channel VTV informed.
He said he was "happy" for his return. Referring to the regional elections to be held next December 16, he declared, "We are eight days ahead of the upcoming victory."
"Look at this, Nicolás (Maduro, the Venezuelan Executive Vice-President and Foreign Affairs Minister), we are pulling off one victory after the other."
"This is the flip of victory. We are the descendants of those who used to be defeated," he said.
Chávez was greeted at the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, in coastal Vargas state, by his Executive Cabinet, including Vice-President and Foreign Minister Nicolás Maduro, National Assembly Speaker Diosdado Cabello and Higher Education Minister Yadira Córdova.
