Cuban hurdler Dayron Robles has said he will not participate in the upcoming winter season championships in Europe.
However, his coach, Santiago Antunez, voted best coach in the world in 2010 by the International Association of Federated Athletics (IAFA) expressed some doubt about the possibility.
"It will be in the winter season and we do not know whether to continue competing. It has not been decided yet," said Antunez, adding that Robles still has the potential to continue competing and considered his decision to abandon athletics somewhat premature.
Robles, Olympic champion in the 110 meter hurdles in Beijing 2008 and former world record holder at 12.87 seconds, finished the last season with disappointment, marked by his injury at the London-2012 summer games. Afterwards, the 26-year-old said he was entitled to retire due to the multiple injuries he has suffered since 2009.
