Cuba saw more than 2.838 million tourist arrivals in 2012, which set a new tourism record in the country, the Cuban Tourism Ministry reported on Friday.
The figure, up 4.5 percent from 2011, approached Cuba's goal of attracting 2.9 million tourist arrivals in 2012, and also slightly exceeded the world average amid the global financial crisis, the ministry said.
Canada ranked first among Cuba's major tourist source countries in the year, which also included Argentina, Russia, Colombia, Peru, Chile, China and Brazil, the ministry said.
Cuba's "Sun and Beach" tourism product remained foreign tourists' favorite, it said.
Tourism is Cuba's second largest foreign currency earner after the exports of technical and professional services.
