Emergency surgery, technical and organizational aspects, and the use of new media technologies and biotechnological means, are some of the issues under debate at the 5th Italy-Cuba International Congress of Surgery, being held in this capital today.
The participants' attention will be focused today on joint operations by experts from both countries, such as a living kidney donor transplant with a new technique of minimal-access kidney extraction.
The speech will be broadcast on closed-circuit television from the operating rooms to the lecture hall, said organizing committee members of the forum, in which heart, thoracic, trauma, and spinal surgeries are also included.
In statements to Granma newspaper, Dr. Pascual Berloco, Professor of Surgery at the Sapienza University of Rome and president of the Italian Society for Organ Transplantation, said that the objective of these meetings is to promote the exchange of critical health information.
The conference was opened yesterday at the Havana's Conference Center, in the presence of Italian ambassador to Cuba, Mr. Carmine Robustelli.
