The caravan Autentica Cuba (Cuba for Real) will tour five Mexican cities June 17-23 to promote tourist offers, the Cuban Tourist Office in Mexico said.
Director of the Office, Alicia Perez, told Prensa Latina that promotional activities will start in Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon and also cover Guadalajara (in Jalisco), Leon (Guanajuato), Queretaro (Queretaro) and Mexico City, the capital.
The caravan will promote mainly attractions specially designed for the summer season, with a launch of direct flights Mexico-Cayo Santa Maria (in central Cuba), described as a real paradise of sun, beach and natural environment.
Air routes from Monterrey and Guadalajara to Havana will also be inaugurated.
Perez said that from Cayo Santa Maria, the visitors will be able to tour neighboring towns rich in cultural traditions and also visit the cities of Trinidad (World Heritage), Cienfuegos and Santa Clara, with excursions including diving and water sports, health and nature tourism, among other interesting options.
Participants in the caravan include hotel groups Melia, Cubanacan, Sandals, Iberostar, Habaguanex, Husa, Blue Bay and Gaviota, as well as travel agencies Cubatur, Paradiso and San Cristobal, and airlines Cubana de Aviacion, Aeromexico and Interjet.
Cuba received last year 2.8 million travellers, 4.4 percent more than in 2011 and expects to reach over three million visitors this year. More than 8,000 Mexicans visited Cuba in the first quarter this year.
