Cuba, represented by club Ciego de Avila Tigers, crown champion in the World Baseball Challenge 2013, after beating 14-4 Japanese team JX-Eneos from Yokohama.

Lead by mentor Roger Machado, the Tigers, champions in the Cuba 2011 tournament based their victories mainly in the offensive with 65 runs in seven games.

In the last game with Japan, Cubans registered 16 hits and 14 runs, six of them in the fourth inning.

Raul Gonzalez finished as batting leader, with an average of 519, due to 14 hits, among them five doubles and a homerun. He also scored a 545 OBP, 815 slugging and OPS of 1360.

Another Cuban, Yoelvis Fiss, finished as a leader in home runs, with three and also commanded the list of run-batted in (11) and was third with a .467 ofensive average.

Finally, Cuba won the title of the III World Baseball Challenge with six wins in seven games. His only defeat, 4-6, came in a match against Chinese Taipei.

With this performance, the Caribbean team exceeded expectations and successfully defended the crown for Cuba, achieved two years ago in the second edition of this competition, based in Citizen Field, Prince George, British Columbia, the Westernmost Canadian province, located on the Pacific coast.

The Fourth Edition of this championship is scheduled for 2015 at the same venue.
