A Cuba official is in Montana to speak about the restoration of Havana's old city center.

Magda Resik Aguirre is the director of communications for Havana's city historian. She said the 1.3-square-mile heart of Cuba's capital city has buildings dating back to the 1500s that would be lost if not for the restoration.

She says thousands of buildings have been restored since 1993, including the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the palace once used by the Spanish Crown and author Ernest Hemingway's beloved Hotel Ambos Mundos.

Resik is spending the week in Montana. She is speaking at Carroll College on Wednesday and the University of Montana on Thursday.

She plans to show images of previously deteriorating historic buildings next to images of them restored.
