Esteban Lazo Hernandez, the president of Cuba’s National Assembly, paid a visit to Haiti last week.
The two-day visit, which included a meeting with Haiti President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, sought to “assess Cuban cooperation in Haiti,” the National Palace said.
The trip also included a stop at the MUPANAH history museum in Port-au-Prince, where Lazo was joined by Haiti Culture Minister Josette Darguste and Cuban Ambassador to Haiti Ricardo Garcia Napoles.
During the MUPANAH visit, the director general of Haiti’s National School of Arts, Philippe Dodard, presented a bust of Cuban hero Jose Marti, calling it a “symbol of friendship between Haiti and Cuba.”
Lazo was named president of the National Assembly in February of this year, succeeding Ricardo Alarcon.
