Three writers from Canada lectured last Saturday and Sunday in Toronto on the negative impact of U.S. hostile policy on Cuba and the case of four Cubans who have been held in U.S. prisons for the last 15 years.
Intellectuals Keith Bolender, Stephen Kimber and Arnold August were at York University and at the Steel Workers Trade Union to present material on those topics, reported the Canadian Network on Cuba, a solidarity organization.
Bolender presented his book Cuba under Siege, which tells the story of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by Washington on Havana.
That coercive measure constitutes a violation of the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law, and the world community has condemned it and demanded its immediate elimination for the last 21 consecutive years in the UN General Assembly.
Meanwhile, Kimber presented his latest publication, What Lies Across the Water: The Real Story of the Cuban Five, the fruit of extensive investigation that included the review of at least 20,000 police reports on the case of the Five.
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González were arrested on Sept. 12, 1998, while they monitored violents groups based in Southern Florida that were planning actions similar to attacks that have left more than 3,400 victims in Cuba in the last 53 years.
August presented his book Cuba and its Neighbors: Democracy in Motion, which analyzes the evolution of popular democracy and Cuba's political system of the island, as well as its positive influence on the process of changes in Latin America.
According to the Canadian network, the speaking event in Toronto by the three authors follows a tour in Europe and the United States presenting their respective works.
