Cuban Tourism Promotion Caravan Reaches Ecuador

The Cuban tourism promotion caravan Autentica Cuba, or Authentic Cuba, arrived in this capital Monday as part of the Cuban Tourism Ministry's strategy of among Ecuadorian tour operators.
In a presentation on Monday at a hotel in Quito, representatives from Cuban company Havanatur and the hotel chains Sol Melia, Iberostar and Palco explained destination Cuba to Ecuadorian tour operators.
"Our plan is to consolidate Cuba as a destination in Ecuador," said Lina Guerra, Havanatur commercial director.
So far this year, about 6,600 Ecuadorian tourists have chosen Cuba as their destination.
Havana and Varadero are the most popular cities among Ecuadorians, but the Autentica Cuba campaign is also emphasizing Santiago de Cuba, Trinidad and other Cuban cities.
Havanatur tour operator Ismael Rodriguez said that as a result of strong promotion work regarding tourism events in Cuba, Ecuadorians are expected to massively participate in an upcoming higher education congress in Havana in Feburary.
After Quito, the Autentica Cuba caravan will continue on to Colombia, sponsored by the Panamanian airline COPA.
