Higinio Vélez, president of the Cuban Baseball Federation (BPF), reported on the new rules that came into effect with the already initiated National Series, which opened with the clash between the last year champion and runner-up, Pinar del Rio and Matanzas respectively.
Among the new regulations is to be considered the ballplayer out if deviates from the direct route to the plate looking for not making contact with the defender. Also, they shall state still the runner if the receiver or another player interferes in his way to the home without being in possession of the ball.
Furthermore from now will be allowed to revoke or confirm refereeing decisions through the use of slow motion, if pitches, home runs, bases theft or fans’ interference.
In addition to the new rules the Federation also reaffirmed absences players Demis Valdes, from Matanzas and Wilber Pérez, from Isla de la Juventud, by reason of the remaining sanctions.
The schedule for the preliminary round of the 16 participating teams will run until December 19, with an intermediate holding recess in November because of the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico.
On December 25 there will be the selection of reinforcements for the eight teams that qualify to the second phase, starting on January 4, and there will be another break for the assistance of Pinar del Rio to the Caribbean Series in Puerto Rico in early February, to close on March 19.
