From November 12 to 17 the fifth edition of Cienfuegos audiovisual festival, Surimagen, will be dedicated to Ecuador. Thus the culture of the South American country would close a cycle of presence on the island during 2014, which began with the dedication of the International Book Fair (February-March).
Barbarian Head, manager of the event, reported that about thirty short films are competing over a dozen documentaries, from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain and Cuba.
Among Surimagen activities there’s a series of lectures on the work of the famous Cuban filmmaker Santiago Alvarez (1919-1998), by Lázara Herrera, president of the Foundation named as the director of Now.
The film and television director Niurka Pérez provide three documental out of competition that will be attached to the festival program.
Among them, one dedicated to the history of Makarenko (Cuban young girls that were prepared as teachers in the early 60s) and two others shot in Ecuador, dealing with artists of that country linked to Cuban National Hero José Martí and culture of the greater Antilles.
