Sugar harvest started in Cuba

The 2014-2015 harvest began on Saturday on the island with the launch of the sugar refinery “14 de Julio”, in the province of Cienfuegos. The campaign started in three factories from the west and center of the country and, according to the official schedule in the coming days we'll be adding other.
According to authorities, the aim is to increase production by 12.3% compared to the previous season, and improve the performance of a depressed industry that once was the largest in the country.
According to the State Sugar Group AZCUBA, this harvest total involving 50 refineries (two more than in the previous one) and sugar milling work should conclude in May. Specifically, this month is expected to begin operating six factories, about 37 will do in December, and the remaining 7 will start in January.
AZCUBA said that in this campaign must achieve an average yield of 43.9 tons per hectare, and is expected to maintain growth achieved in the last four years.
