Traffic accident causes 41 French tourists injured

At kilometer 205 of the National Highway 41 French tourists were injured Monday afternoon in a traffic accident while traveling in a Transgaviota bus from Santa Clara to Varadero.
According to preliminary information, the bus overturned while trying to overtake a truck. The driver of the bus was traveling at excessive speed. Besides French, there are two Cuban citizens injured (the tour guide and driver).
Dr. Moses Santos, deputy director of Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Hospital in Cienfuegos, said the facility received 42 wounded. At least nine of them were in risk of life and other six have needed major surgery. "No death has happened," said Santos.
The injured were assisted at the scene by locals, workers of Guayabito and a crane that was passing by. Initially several of them were transferred to medical centers in the municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros and the town of Cartagena.
The French authorities indicated that the injured are retired spending holidays on the island. In a statement, Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, said he has been in contact with the Crisis Centre of the Ministry of Foreign receiving information from French Embassy in Cuba.
The Prime Minister expressed "full support to wounded countrymen facing the pain" and assured their families being made for their repatriation to France.
