The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation of the Federal Assembly (bicameral parliament) of Russia, Konstantin Kosachev, argued today in Havana to boost a collaborative project for Cuban students to study in Russian universities.

The Russian parliamentary project manager spoke to Cuban students in Russia during a meeting with the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Kenia Serrano, according to official media.

Kosachev said the friendship between Russia and Cuba has much to do with the students of the island that have graduated from universities in the country and considered it "positive that this style of fraternizing be inherited by future generations."

According to the first vice president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, more than 120,000 foreigners from 160 countries studying in that country, awarded 7,000 scholarships annually for foreign students.

Kosachev cataloged to Cuba as an ally and "closest" partners of Russia and highlighted the increase of high-level visits exchanged the two countries in recent years.

Meanwhile, the head of ICAP, said that the Cuban-Russian relations must continue to "strengthen as happened throughout history."

Kosachev plans other meetings with representatives of the Cuban government, the National People's Assembly (unicameral Parliament) and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education, according to a report on state television that did not specify the duration of their visit to the island .

Cuba and Russia have intensified their bilateral relations both in the political and economic area with the official visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the island in July 2014. The Russian leader said during his visit that they were creating "new conditions" develop relations between his country and Cuba, one enfilada to strengthen economic and trade cooperation stage.
