The meeting between Hollande and former ruler of Cuba -88 years and retired from power since 2006- took place at 15.00 local time and it lasted about forty minutes, according to the source.
Also the leader of the Cuban Revolution expressed his gratitude to President Hollande for "being the first head of state of France visiting Cuba".
His trip to Cuba occurs in the thaw in relations between Cuba and the United States, a process that Hollande provided support today and called for the end of the embargo, he said in a lecture at the University of Havana.
