The head of the US Interests Section of Cuba in Washington, Jose Ramon Cabañas, gave on Tuesday May 12 a lecture entitled "Winds of Change in Havana and Washington" at New College of Florida in Sarasota, south of Tampa, to a hundred businessmen, officials, politicians and religious persons.
Cabañas, the highest Cuban diplomat in the United States, spoke of business opportunities with Cuba and expressly referred to the opportunities the Mariel Special Development Zone will offer. In this regard, he urged Americans entrepreneurs to quickly negotiate possibilities in Cuba before "the capacity of the island to run out".
Another of the topics discussed was the increase in American visitors to the island, and Cabañas admitted that Cuba lacks sufficient infrastructure for a surge of visitors from the neighboring country. It is expected to have the support of the private sector to take on new visitors.
