The restoration of relations between Cuba and the United States and the possibilities of trade between them pose new problems to solve. Precisely for that, the company Havana Club International SA -the result of the merger in 1993 of CubaRon and French company Pernod Ricard-, and given the ruling of the US Supreme Court in favor of the owners of Bacardi International, registered in 2011 the brand Havanista and two years later, in 2013, introduced the new product with the authorities of HCI.
With the same bottle and same quality of Havana Club 7 years, the new trademark was born "in order to be ready to distribute its portfolio of rums in the US when the current embargo to Cuban products to be lifted", as stated in havanista.com site. In the rest of the world the company would continue to market Havana Club that many bars and places have preferred for decades.
The company, which will begin selling 400 000 cases of rum and currently hovers around 4 million, would significantly increase its profits in case of opening to the American market.
