Republican senators Marco Rubio and David Vitter introduced a bill on Tuesday to demand Cuba to "face pending legal claims and unpaid credits" it has contracted with the US before easing travel and trade restrictions on the island.
Under the name Cuban Claims Settlement Act of the United States ", the senators want Havana government to pay its debt to the United States, according to them, it is between $ 7,000 and $ 8,000 million as a result of property confiscated after Cuban revolution.
"This is the biggest seizure of assets without compensation by a foreign government in US history ", the senators said.
The senators note that "President Barack Obama has ignored this essential requirement during the last negotiations with Cuba".
Vitter considers that Obama wants a "quick fix" to relations with the island, and assured that by no means the embargo should be lifted "without adequate guarantees to protect the future of US business".
