The Chinese General Fan Changlong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CCP and vice president of the Central Military Commission of China, started on Monday a visit to the United States.
Changlong is one of the leading military officials from China and visits Washington in the midst of the tension between the two countries on the South China Sea and cybersecurity. He has been invited by Ash Carter, United States Defense Secretary.
From Washignton he will go to Cuba, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense of China.
Last week US government computers were hacked and personal data of four million federal active and retired employees were stolen. Experts point Beijing as the origin of the cyber attacks.
China and the US are also in disagreement over the South China Sea dispute, 90% of which is claimed by China .
In May 2014 a Chinese military delegation made the same journey, traveling from Beijing to Washington and then to Havana.
