The federal legislator Jeff Duncan, head of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee for the Western Hemisphere of the House of Representatives, chaired an audience this morning on the confiscated properties in Cuba, the claiming rights of Americans and Cubans, at the heat of Obama’s decision to normalize relations with Cuba.
Duncan explained that “Fidel Castro brutally took power in 1959; he confiscated the properties of both Americans and Cubans - in some cases at gunpoint - without giving any compensation.
However, Obama’s Administration has proceeded in talks to normalize relations with Cuba , without giving any priority to justice for American claimants whose property and goods were stolen by the communists. “
In total, Duncan concludes, "these property claims represent the loss of billions of dollars and a blatant disregard for the importance of property rights and the rule of law. I look forward to further discuss this issue."
