The US government authorized Carnival, the largest cruise company in the world, to provide direct flights between Miami and Cuba, announced today the company in the middle of the diplomatic rapprochement between Washington and Havana.
Carnival, based in Miami, reported that hopes to launch the new route in May 2016, after the Department of Treasury authorized it to cover the route.
"We are excited to receive approval from the United States as the first and very important step to finally bring travelers to Cuba under the 12 existing categories for authorized travel," said Arnold Donald, president of Carnival.
"We are eager to work with the Cuban authorities to (get) approval and realize the social, cultural and humanitarian exchanges between Americans and the people of Cuba," he added. "We know there is a great demand of travelers," said the manager.
