United States confirmed on Monday the appointment of Jeffrey DeLaurentis as charge d'affaires in the new US embassy in Havana, from next July 20, the State Department said in a statement.
DeLaurentis has served since August 2014 as head of the US Interests Section in Cuba, so he will keep the highest level position in the new embassy, said the agency.
He added that the representatives of the US in Cuba will maintain the functions of the Interests Section, including consular services, operation of political and economic portfolio, implementation of programs of public diplomacy and respect for human rights.
