Cuba seeks to declare the rumba as intangible cultural heritage and to promote its candidacy to UNESCO will perform the "Ruta de la Rumba" (Rumba Route), a musical journey that will cross the nation from the 21 to 31 August next, reported today the official media.
The island presented the nomination of the rumba to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) earlier this year, with a record entitled "Cuban Rumba, a festive combination of music and dance, and all its associated practices."
The musical genre was already declared Cultural Heritage of Cuba, (like the son and danzon) and defends its candidacy because it is an expression that illustrates the cultural diversity of the island and its importance as traditional identity trait that has kept alive through time.
" Rumba Route "is part of the VII International Meeting of the Cuban Rumba and will start on the evening of Friday, August 21 at the Havana town of Guanabacoa, a traditional rumba square from where it will continue around the island to finish in Santiago de Cuba (east) on 29 and 31.
