The Cuban parrot (Amazona leucocephala), with its vivid Red-Green color, is in danger of extinction. Cuban specialists try to ensure their survival in several regions of the island studying the conditions of their traditional habitat.
The main causes for the decline of the parrots in the Cuban countryside are lack of fruit trees and illicit trade.
Alberto Rodriguez, director of the Wildlife Refuge in the province told local press that "by working to achieve sustained growth and ensure the bird habitat located sides now have seven to 30 parrots".
Rodriguez stressed the need to sow the land with plants like guava, plum and carob paradise because its fruits and seeds are the favorite food of these birds.
