Cuban record company (EGREM) of Cuba and the US Sony Music Entertainment signed Tuesday in Havana an agreement for international distribution of the work of renowned musicians of the island, like the legendary Compay Segundo and Los Van Van.
The unprecedented agreement will allow Sony Music to promote phonographic and audiovisual productions stockpiled by the EGREM with Cuban music from the 1960s.
The president of Sony Music International, Edgar Berger, told reporters that it is "an honor" to our business "bring to all corners of the world this iconic music representing five decades of Cuban culture" and explained that he worked for two years to make this project a reality.
For his part, the CEO of the main musical company of the island, Mario Escalona, said "the leadership of the EGREM, added to Sony Music, will be the best way to boost the global spread of Cuban music".
