The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba issued a statement on Saturday denouncing the report by Fox News in which it is stated that the government of the Caribbean nation sent troops to Syria to support President Bashar al-Assad.
The General Director of Bilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, said the Cuban Foreign Ministry "categorically denies and refutes the irresponsible and unsubstantiated information" related to "alleged presence of Cuban troops in the Syrian Arab Republic."
For his part, the White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Thursday that the US government had not seen any evidence to suggest that the Fox News reports were true.
