An exhibition of Cuban artist Alfredo Sosabravo, National Prize of Plastic Arts, was opened in the Italian capital to mark the 80th anniversary of uninterrupted diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Vatican, diplomatic sources said Monday.
The exhibition was also inaugurated in celebration of Cuban Culture Day (October 20) at the Palace of the Chancellery, an architectural work representative of the Italian Renaissance which was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1990.
The inauguration was held this weekend attended by representatives of the Vatican Secretariat of State, members of the diplomatic corps and the world of culture in Italy.
The links between the two states were established in 1935 during the pontificate of His Holiness Pius XI, and Cuba was the first Latin American country to establish ties with the Holy See.
