The General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) began this morning in New York the discussion of the draft resolution that urges the United States to lift the economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba.
When in 1992 the island first introduced a draft resolution condemning the US policy, many felt it would not be more than a symbolic opposition, although it was approved by most UN members at the time.
However, 23 years later, the global support against this disastrous policy has grown to leave isolated the aggressor and in fact is one of the reasons why diplomatic relations between Cuba and Washington were restored, and Cuba will not yield an iota of its principles.
In September, world leaders and Heads of State and Government opposed during their speeches the US siege imposed on the island so it is expected that this year the unanimous condemnation is achieved.
