The Ecuadorian Vice Foreign Minister, Xavier Lasso announced yesterday November 26, at a press conference, that since December 1st, Cuban citizens will need a visa to enter the South American country.
This measure appears to be a solution to the increasing migration flows, in which Ecuador is used as a gateway to the continent, and whose final destination is the United States.
According to Lasso, the route exposes the Cuban population to risks; the best evidence are the thousands of people stranded in Costa Rica because Nicaragua does not allow cross its territory. "Our commitment to the human being is to stop this migration trend threatening men, women and children," said the diplomat.
