Panamanian businessmen from the Colon Free Zone (CFZ), world's second largest free zone, expressed their interest in trading with Cuba after it has fully opened on the island, local media announced today.
"I think it is important to make efforts aimed at this market, but as the full opening is not given on the island still we will not do business," the president of the Association of Users of the Colon Free Zone (AUZLC ), Marco Tellez told reporters.
The executive said that "while the (Cuban) government still manages all state institutions as if they were private companies, it is a bit complicated."
"Recall that in Cuba the companies are state's, and do business with governments is not the overnight," said Tellez
Tellez said Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela, whom he met a few weeks ago, spoke of the possibility of a credit line for companies to increase their business with Cuba.
