Florida achieved a record-breaking milestone in tourism in 2023, welcoming over 140.6 million visitors, Governor Ron DeSantis announced. According to statistics released in a statement this Friday by the Republican leader, the Sunshine State has solidified its position as the top destination for travelers worldwide.

Adding to this historic record from the past year, Florida received 40.6 million visitors in the first quarter of 2024, the highest number ever recorded for a single quarter.

"Once again, Florida leads the nation as an unparalleled destination for tourists (...). These record numbers demonstrate that our efforts have made Florida an even more attractive state for visitors," emphasized DeSantis.

The 2023 figures represent a 2.3% increase from the previous record in 2022. Among these, domestic visits reached an all-time high of 129.1 million. The state also welcomed 8.3 million international visitors and 3.2 million Canadian visitors. Other leading countries include the United Kingdom, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. In the first quarter of 2024, international visits stood at 2.1 million and Canadian visits at 1.3 million.

The total number of visitors in the first quarter of 2024 reached 40.6 million, an annual increase of 1.2% and the highest number ever received in a single quarter, the report highlights.

Simultaneously, domestic flights at 19 Florida airports increased by 8.9% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2023. Domestic flights accounted for 81.6% of total flights, compared to 82.0% in the same quarter last year.

With unmatched natural beauty, the state boasts globally renowned attractions such as Disney parks and the southern beaches on its east and west coasts, many of which rank among the best in the country.
