Monday, May 20, 2024 by Mia Dominguez

Support continues to pour in for Virgen María, the Cuban mother who was evicted with her two young daughters from their rented home in Miami after losing her job. The TikToker Dairon Cano, who shared her story on his account to seek help from his followers, has been posting new videos showing the overwhelming solidarity from the Cuban exile community in response to her plight.

Dairon shared a visit to Virgen María by a group of elderly women, some with mobility issues, who brought food from the Baby Boomers Adult Day Care Center. "We have come from far away to help her. We hope everyone in Hialeah will contribute," said an elderly woman who identified herself as La Mariposa.

The seniors met with Virgen María in her room at the Motel Chesapeake in Hialeah and handed her a card signed by all the residents who contributed to the donation, along with a specially dedicated poem, which the young mother read with emotion. "Don't cry, you have to be strong," La Mariposa told her.

Since the case of this mother came to light, numerous Cubans have offered their support, both financially and with bags of food and supplies. The Cuban mother facing eviction with her two daughters in Miami expressed gratitude for the help from dozens of people in the city who came to her aid.

The young mother was visibly moved after receiving assistance in resolving her situation after losing her rental home and job. "Thank you very much for your support, for everything you are doing for me and my daughters. I have no words to thank you for all you are doing," she said last week.

On May 11, this mother of two young daughters reached out to the TikToker to share her story. Virgen explained that she worked as an Uber driver, but in April, her car was involved in an accident, and she has been unable to return to work since the insurance company has not repaired the vehicle. "I can't pay the rent. I spoke with the landlord and said, 'Look, sir, I have always paid on time and in full. This is the first time I haven't paid. I'm only four days late,'" she detailed.

Through tears, she showed the eviction notice requested by the property owner for just four days of delay and assured that she could provide proof of her consistent rent payments. "I am not ashamed to ask for help because I truly need it. I would be ashamed to steal," she said, crying.
