Two Women Clash in Santiago de Cuba Over Prime Plastic Bag Selling Spot

Monday, May 20, 2024 by Aaron Delgado

A heated argument over the prime spot for selling plastic bags erupted between two women on one of the busiest streets in Santiago de Cuba this Sunday, forcing bystanders to step in and separate them.

The street brawl took place on Las Enramadas and could have been influenced by mental health factors, noted communicator Yosmany Mayeta in a video posted on Facebook.

Warning: The following video contains footage of a physical altercation between two individuals. Viewer discretion is advised.

"The 'plastic bag sellers' were separated by the bystanders, as the bakery workers did nothing to intervene," stated the independent journalist, pointing out that the scene occurred just a few meters from Plaza de Marte and near the provincial headquarters of the Communist Party of Cuba, areas heavily monitored by the police.

However, it seems that these fights over the prime selling spots for plastic bags are common at the bakery, Mayeta added, explaining that it was the first time he received a recording from this location.

He also highlighted a noteworthy detail: the absence of law enforcement in an area that is usually well-protected due to its proximity to various significant locations, including the Communist headquarters in the city.

Although the altercation between the two women did not result in any serious harm, in April, also in Santiago de Cuba, a street fight on the famous Trocha street left one person seriously injured and requiring hospitalization.

A video shared by Mayeta captured a moment from the brawl, which appeared to be a melee, where a young man was gravely injured by stabbing.
