A man is facing charges for allegedly threatening his roommate with a machete in Hialeah after being asked to clean the apartment's bathroom, according to the police. Carlos Ferley Ruiz García, 37, originally from Colombia, was arrested on Sunday after the victim reported the incident to authorities. He is now facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim, identified by Telemundo51 as Luis Alonso Díaz, told the news channel that the altercation began when he asked Ruiz to clean the bathroom of the home they have shared for the past three months. In a fit of rage and apparently intoxicated, Ruiz grabbed a machete, brandished it at Díaz, and demanded he leave his room. "Let's kill each other," he reportedly said, according to a report by the Hialeah Police Department cited by local media.

Officers rushed to the scene after receiving a disturbance call near the 50th block of West 17th Street around 11 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arriving, they found Ruiz still holding the machete in his right hand. They ordered him to drop the weapon and immediately took him into custody.

Alonso told authorities that he "feared for his life," believing Ruiz intended to kill him if he stepped out of the room. Another resident of the apartment, who witnessed the incident, corroborated Alonso's account.

Ruiz was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and appeared in court on Monday. Judge Mindy Glazer ordered him to stay away from the victim, with no contact allowed. Ruiz was given a $5,000 bond and is also being held on an immigration detainer, as reported by Telemundo51.
