Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramírez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has announced his return to the ring in June in Miami to attempt to reclaim his World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title. "El Tren Ramírez" will face 26-year-old Mexican boxer Brandon León Benítez on June 29 at the James L. Knight Center. Benítez boasts a record of 23 wins, 9 by knockout, and 2 losses.
"On June 29, my mission to regain my world title and return to the top begins. Cuba vs. Mexico once again, and I am thrilled to have the unwavering support of the Cuban community in Miami. So, bring your flag," the Cuban pugilist wrote on social media. "It will be an electrifying event. The journey is far from over. My return will be legendary. The Train is coming back!" he added.
Tickets for the fight are available through official Top Rank channels, with prices ranging from $60 to $300.
The Mexican boxer also commented on the fight on his social media. "I am grateful for the opportunity to prove that I belong among the best in the division. But I want Robeisy Ramírez to know that this is nothing new for me. I know what it's like to step into enemy territory against a tough former world champion. Just like I did with Can, I am going to make it a tough night for Ramírez. I respect him as a boxer, but once I step into the ring, I won't stop throwing punches until my hand is raised," said Benítez.
Robeisy Ramírez, 30, holds a professional record of 13 victories in 15 fights, with 8 knockouts. The Cuban lost his title last December to fellow Mexican Rafael 'Divino' Espinoza.
Ramírez’s promoter, Top Rank Boxing, confirmed that the Cuban’s fight will serve as the co-main event on a card headlined by Teófimo López, who will defend his WBO super lightweight title against Canadian Steve Claggett. The card will also feature a rematch between Nico Ali Walsh and Sona Akale in the middleweight division.
