Martin Brenner, a resident of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, never imagined in his wildest nightmares that he would find a 10-foot alligator swimming in his backyard pool. Yet, that's exactly what happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to the homeowner, located in the Venetian Bay community, the most surprising part was how the alligator got in: “It didn't tear anything up or cause any damage, it just pushed the protective mesh aside,” reported News 6.

Brenner recounted that around 2:00 am, his dog woke him up by barking at the pool. At that moment, they saw the alligator “stretched out along the pool,” as he described.

“We couldn't figure out what might have attracted it, but we have a small cat that had gone outside, and we don't know if that was the cause,” the bewildered Floridian added.

When Brenner realized the massive reptile wasn't going to leave the comfort of the pool, he had to call the police. Officers arrived with trappers and members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

“They had to use a pole to get the alligator out, but they eventually managed to take it away,” he told News 6. “We all had to get in and try to lift it,” he added.

The New Smyrna Beach Police Department noted on Facebook that “this gator felt right at home overnight in Venetian Bay,” adding, “Don't be fooled by the angle; it was approximately 10 feet long!”

In Florida, people encounter alligators in the most unexpected places. The high temperatures the state has been experiencing recently led to a humorous scene: a small alligator taking a solo dip in a water fountain at a park.

The incident took place at a community fountain in Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Beach County, according to Telemundo 51. Additionally, last April, a video captured an alligator climbing a fence in an attempt to reach the water.

Travis Akers shared the moment on Facebook when the animal accomplished this remarkable feat, commenting, “Florida is wild!”
