Grandmother from Cuba Astounded by Spanish Supermarket: "Communism is a F..."

Monday, May 27, 2024 by Emily Vargas

An elderly Cuban woman who recently arrived in Spain was left astonished after visiting a supermarket and witnessing the vast variety of food items available.

Lila, 89, originally from Caibarién, is currently in Tenerife with her grandson, who took her on a tour of the city just hours after she arrived in the European country.

Supported by a cane but with a jovial and spontaneous character, she enjoyed her walk, firmly stating that she wants nothing to do with communism.

"You need to take a manual and learn all that is here," her grandson suggested.

After leaving the supermarket, she was amazed at all the food they were able to purchase with just over 50 euros—items she hadn't seen in decades in Cuba and others she didn’t even know existed.

"Communism is a f...," she declared emphatically.

Her grandson has been posting videos of her experiences on the YouTube channel "Yo soy Lila" since her arrival in Spain.

During her outing, Lila even met a Cuban man who runs an ice cream stand, who was very kind and affectionate towards her.
