The inability of the Cuban regime to provide necessary work conditions for doctors has led to an outcry on social media this Wednesday, calling for otoscopes to be delivered to ENT specialists in Camagüey. Activist Guelmi Abdul took to Facebook to highlight the need for this essential medical instrument, which is used to examine the inner ear.

"For ENT specialists to properly examine patients, who could be any of our family members, neighbors, or friends, they need otoscopes for consultations," Abdul stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

In the comments section, the activist pointed out that the shortage of otoscopes and other medical supplies primarily affects the general public. She stressed that "we have no choice but to keep searching" for solutions.

Abdul also noted that some ENT specialists, who earn wages insufficient to cover their basic personal and family needs, are purchasing otoscopes out of their own pockets. This is their only way to address the issue in the face of the regime's inaction and to ensure patient care.

"Many regulations for them as specialists, yet nothing to help them serve the public," she concluded.

Amid the shortage of medical supplies and medications, people are organizing social media campaigns to alleviate the situation caused by Cuba's economic crisis.

Social Media Campaigns for Medical Supplies

In April, Cuban activist Yamilka Lafita, known online as Lara Crofs, launched a campaign to secure a humanitarian visa for Thiago Fernando, a child suffering from a degenerative disease for which there is no treatment available on the island.

Lara, who led the campaign that enabled Amanda Lemus Ortiz to travel to Spain for a liver transplant, is now spearheading a similar effort for this nine-year-old boy diagnosed with Duchenne syndrome (a rapidly worsening muscular dystrophy).
