The Cuban girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz, who underwent a liver transplant on March 15, had to return to the operating room last Monday for another surgery.

According to activist Lara Crofs, it was a minor procedure to reinsert a catheter with drainage and a stent in the bile duct, which was dilating. "The doctors explain that the dilation of the duct is due to the amount of antibiotics the girl continues to receive because of resistant bacteria she contracted while in Cuba," she explained on Facebook.

Lara elaborated that in 15 days, a contrast test will be performed on the child to see how the duct is functioning with the catheter. "The girl came out of the postoperative period perfectly once again. Amanda and her parents have immense strength. Surviving all they have been through has been epic," she emphasized.

Despite her progress, specialists warn that the girl's recovery could still take months. The cause of all her setbacks over the past two months is the severe physical deterioration she had when she arrived at Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid.

"The family and friends of the girl will never stop feeling eternal gratitude towards this community of Cubans who united to carry out such a humane and supportive campaign," she concluded.
