The Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) apprehended a human smuggler traveling with 19 Cuban migrants who had entered the country irregularly. Among them were three minors.
The police operation took place at kilometer 73.8 on the CA-2 West route in Escuintla. The mission was executed by the PNC's Mobile Tactical Interdiction Unit (UMIT).
A suspected "coyote," identified as Jaime "N", 40, was captured while transporting the migrants in a Honda SUV. Authorities reported that Jaime "N" was caught in the act of transporting the Cubans.
The 19 detained individuals were taken to the headquarters of the Guatemalan Institute of Migration, where appropriate actions were coordinated to resolve their immigration status. Jaime "N" was brought before a court to face charges of human trafficking.
