After being rescued by a group of animal protectors, Yeiko, a dog brutally attacked with a machete by a man in Sancti Spíritus, is showing promising signs of recovery. The ARCA Foundation in Sancti Spíritus shared images on Facebook this Saturday, showcasing the canine receiving care and recuperating successfully.

"It's incredible how much Yeiko has improved; the wound is nearly healed, and he behaves very well during his treatments," noted the organization, continuing the narrative of this dog who was a victim of a cruel and violent act. "Come on Yeiko, you can do it, you're almost there," ARCA encouraged, sharing images of the dog with his owner, who found him after he was rescued and underwent surgery.

Last Thursday, the organization also posted on Facebook that the dog had received a bath: "There was no way to get a better photo, it seems he didn't like it much," they noted. The photo shows the dog with his wound exposed but looking healthy and active.

On May 20, the ARCA Foundation became aware of a violent incident where a man attacked a dog with a machete. "While everyone was sleeping, our foundation was suffering alongside the medical team that fought tirelessly to save Yeiko's life," they stated on Facebook, condemning the horrific crime.

As a result of the violence, the dog received over 50 stitches during surgery due to severe head injuries, including an exposed eye, which was ultimately lost, and a fractured jaw. However, thanks to the efforts of animal protectors and Yeiko's family, this dog's story will have a happy ending.

Unfortunately, many animals are currently disappearing in Cuba, which is suffering from the worst economic crisis in decades, and are never found again. Recently, an animal protector identified on social media as Miriela Ramos López warned that in some areas of Havana, cats have vanished, hinting they might have been eaten. "I want to raise an alert; two days ago in Playa, near the La Puntilla store, not a single cat, stray or pet, is left," she emphasized in the Facebook group "Society for the Protection of Animals in Cuba."
