Residents of Santiago de Cuba took to social media this Sunday to report that the water flowing into their homes is so filthy that it resembles chocolate rather than the precious liquid. "Since the water service was restored in Santiago de Cuba, many people have reported that the water is coming out very dark in the city," noted journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook, highlighting that the issue is affecting many people.
"The Authorities of Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado Aguas Santiago have not commented on the matter," the independent journalist added, questioning whether this liquid meets the necessary standards to be considered potable.
The ongoing water supply crisis in this province continues to place its residents in a difficult situation, often forcing them to resort to extreme measures. In May, residents of the Los Pinos neighborhood, who had gone more than two weeks without water service through the pipeline network, were compelled to fill buckets and tanks directly from a massive leak in the street, Mayeta reported on Facebook.
According to the activist, the large hole at the corner of Mariana Grajales and Los Pinos was the result of a repair for a breakage that started some time ago and was delayed in being fixed. Additionally, the residents of the Los Pinos neighborhood in Santiago de Cuba reported going more than 20 days without potable water service, pointing out the persistent crisis that the regime has yet to resolve.
"This water truck you see in the photo went to B Street in Los Pinos and filled a neighbor's tanks, charging her a hefty fee, but no one else could get water because we had to pay for it," Mayeta denounced, alerting that water truck operators are exploiting the dire situation to profit.
