Yordenis Ugás Invests in New Miami Skyscraper: "One of My Biggest Projects"

Sunday, June 2, 2024 by Grace Ramos

Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás has extended the reach of his fists beyond the ring by investing part of his capital in an architectural project that further enhances the beauty of Miami: a new skyscraper.

Just a month after the inauguration of the Aston Martin Residences, a 66-floor residential tower (249 meters high) located at 300 Biscayne Boulevard Way, the world champion shared images of the construction of a similar building, in which he is one of the investors. This project promises to have a significant impact on the city of Florida.

"One of my biggest projects for the end of this decade, built on hard work, blood, and sacrifices," he noted on the social media platform Facebook, while encouraging "young fighters" to "capitalize their money so that in the end, all the sacrifices are not in vain."

"Boxing money is not for living like a millionaire unless you are a superstar," the Santiago native stated, recalling how a few years ago (2016), he ventured to invest his savings in this venture located near his residence.

Okan Tower: A New Landmark in Downtown Miami

As part of the modernization process of Downtown Miami, the Okan Tower (the name of the building) will reach a height of 300 meters, feature 70 floors, and house the Hilton Miami Bayfront Hotel, offering its guests all the amenities of a five-star establishment.

Inspired by the shape of tulips as a reflection of Turkish cultural heritage, the building is a collaboration between Okan Group & Holdings and the architectural firm Behar Font & Partners, responsible for its distinctive design, which will position it as an aesthetic symbol and a testament to advancements in engineering and innovation, according to the website Smart Luxe.

Amazed by the project's progress from a model to its current image, with evident signs of advancement, the lightweight champion thanked Mayor Francis Suárez for his support. Suárez presented Ugás with the keys to the city of Miami in September 2021.

At that time, Ugás expressed pride in the honor, as part of "the millions of Cubans who escaped a dictatorship in search of freedom and a better life." "Proud to know that it's not just for being a champion, because there are many champions, but for being an example in my community and, above all, for being a fighter and a man committed to the freedom of my country," he said.

The wave of majestic buildings is set to continue with a project by the German company Mercedes-Benz, which chose this city, the third with the highest number of high-rise buildings in the United States, to construct its first skyscraper in the country. This mixed-use tower will consist of 67 floors.
