After 45 years of serving the Cuban community in Broward County, Romeu’s Cuban Restaurant in South Florida has permanently closed its doors, leaving devoted patrons heartbroken. According to Telemundo, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued an eviction order for the business, as indicated by a notice posted on the door and court documents.
A letter placed outside the establishment at Coquina Plaza, located at 6800 Dykes Road, announced the closure of the Cuban restaurant. “During these 45 years in the market, you have been more than customers to us. You have become our family,” the letter stated.
“We have faced many challenges in the past, but the current state of the economy makes it increasingly difficult to keep up with the costs of managing our store,” the letter indicated. The alleged debt of Romeu's Cuban Restaurant amounts to more than $82,000 in unpaid rent, according to court documents.
“It breaks our hearts to say goodbye, but we must prioritize the financial stability of our family,” the letter noted. Recently, the restaurant shared an Instagram story from a customer thanking them for years of comforting food and declaring, “The worst day ever,” according to Telemundo.
The history of this restaurant began in 1978, with multiple locations in Miami-Dade County before settling in Broward. Until its closure, Romeu’s Cuban Restaurant offered meeting rooms for parties, takeout service, home delivery, and a variety of services for birthdays, weddings, and baptisms.
