The 20 women competing for the crown of Miss Universe Cuba (MUC) and heading to the Miss Universe pageant will participate in a televised show on September 15. The queen of the Caribbean country will be selected, as announced by the event organizers this Monday.
The national director of MUC, Prince Julio César, in an interview published on Instagram and given to Enrique Santos, mentioned that after the virtual casting, which saw participation from 578 young women, between 150 and 200 candidates will be chosen. From these, the final 20 contestants will be selected to participate in the September television program.
“The live, three-hour televised show will be viewable across the United States, coast to coast,” the Venezuelan fashion designer hinted, suggesting that Cuba's return to the Miss Universe beauty pageant will be celebrated in grand style.
Julio César, who was chosen to lead the MUC due to his more than two decades of professional experience in the beauty industry, considered it “wonderful that Cuba has the opportunity to return to Miss Universe.”
He also mentioned that, despite the conclusion of the virtual casting, which received applications from young women both from outside and within the island, any other Cuban woman who wishes to participate can simply contact the organizers through the contest's website.
Regarding the requirements, he reminded that the contestant must be Cuban or have at least one parent with that nationality, and noted that age, size, or physical build do not matter. “Cubans living on the island can participate, as long as they can travel to Miami to compete, they are welcome,” he stated.
Recently, the national director of MUC assured journalist Luis Alfonso Borrego during the Univision television program “Siéntese Quien Pueda” that the platform he leads is “about beauty, a positive message, unity, respect, and equality, because those are the standards of Miss Universe.”
The Venezuelan designer and fashion consultant declared that MUC is a cultural platform, not a political one.
