The Cuban beach volleyball pair, Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, have just secured their place in the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to the Facebook user CubanSp1ke, the Cubans clinched the coveted spot on Tuesday, right before the start of the Elite 16 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The duo was awaiting the results of the elite phase of the tournament, the final event that counted towards the ranking, which they did not attend. Unexpectedly, "the qualification phase placed the Austrian and Chilean teams in a hypothetical second round. If they managed to pass the first, it meant that one of them would not make it to the main draw."

"With this, Alayo, Díaz, and their coach Francis Alvarez Cutiño can continue the celebration that began with their performance in Poland a few days ago," the post emphasized.

The Cubans were in the qualifying zone according to the provisional Olympic ranking after winning the silver medal on Sunday at the Challenge of Stare Jablonki in Poland, part of the 2024 World Beach Volleyball Pro Tour.

"This beach volleyball pair has renewed faith in a sport that is difficult to practice in Cuba and not viable for making a living on the Island due to its characteristics. We will always remember 2024 as the year they rose to the elite. Today, besides qualifying for the Paris Olympics, they are the world's number 10 pair, a feat previously achieved only by their coach Francisco Álvarez Cutiño and Juan Rossell over 20 years ago," expressed Roney CubanSp1ke in the post.

In Sunday's match in Poland, the Cubans were defeated by the Czechs Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner in the tie-breaker. It was the only game the Cubans lost throughout the event.

"We are very happy because we have exceeded expectations by reaching the podium of the World Pro Tour for the fourth time this season, playing against top-level pairs. We have great hope of bringing immense joy to our people, with Cuba present in the French capital," Álvarez Cutiño told the Cuban magazine JIT, when the qualification was still uncertain.
