Nearly three months after undergoing a liver transplant in Spain, Cuban girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz continues to make remarkable progress each day.
This uplifting news was shared by activist Lara Crofs on her Facebook page. She recounted how, while giving a ride to two young women in Havana, the first thing they asked was about Amanda's health.
"Amanda is improving every day, looking beautiful, and laughing a lot more, something she never used to do," Lara happily revealed.
Amanda's recovery journey saw another milestone on May 27, when she returned to the operating room for a minor procedure. During this intervention, doctors inserted a catheter with drainage and a stent in her bile duct, which was dilating.
"The dilation of the duct is due to the amount of antibiotics Amanda continues to receive, as she contracted resistant bacteria while in Cuba," Lara explained at the time.
Early next week, Amanda will undergo a contrast test to assess the functionality of the duct post-catheter insertion.
"She came out of the post-op period perfectly once again. Amanda and her parents exhibit incredible strength. Surviving everything they've been through has been nothing short of epic," the activist emphasized.
Despite the positive progress, specialists caution that Amanda's full recovery could take months. The main reason for her multiple setbacks over the past two months is the severe physical deterioration she was in when she arrived at Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid.
