Vilma Almanza Siles, the woman who ran over and killed her Cuban boyfriend, Yuniesky Díaz Gómez, in Lexington, Nebraska, will appear in court next Monday. She faces charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without a license.

Almanza, 42, originally from Nicaragua, is accused of causing the death of 38-year-old Díaz on June 2 outside the Poderosa Apartments complex where they both lived. She has been held in the Dawson County jail without bail since the incident and will make her first court appearance for the reading of charges on June 10 at 10 a.m., according to local reports.

According to court documents, officers from the Lexington Police Department were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday to the apartment complex, where they found Díaz lying on the ground with severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle driven by Almanza. Witnesses reported to authorities that the couple had an argument upon arriving home in the early morning hours. During the confrontation, Díaz stood in front of the car to prevent Almanza from leaving, and she ran him over.

The Cuban national was rushed by Volunteer Fire Department personnel to Lexington Regional Health Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following her arrest on suspicion of DUI, Almanza underwent a breathalyzer test that indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.118.

The Lexington Police Department is investigating the case with assistance from the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.

Díaz was a native of Herradura, Pinar del Río, and had been in a relationship with Almanza since June 2023.
