Severe Flooding Hits Havana After Torrential Rains

Torrential rains have caused severe flooding in several municipalities of the Cuban capital, including Old Havana and Central Havana. "It's pouring in Old Havana," reported Facebook user Emicenio Z Zaldívar, who shared photos of the flooded streets taken by Cuban resident Ivón Valdés.

The images depict cars and motorcycles submerged in water, with some reports indicating that certain streets are impassable. Commenters on the post confirmed heavy rainfall in Reparto Santa Amalia, as well as in Arroyo Naranjo, Alamar, La Lisa, San Agustín, and the El Guatao area. There were also reports of significant rainfall in Matanzas.

The Center for Forecasting at the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) of Cuba warned that more showers, rain, and thunderstorms are likely to occur on Thursday afternoon and evening across much of the national territory. The governmental entity's daily report stated, "In the afternoon, it will become cloudy in much of the national territory with some showers, rain, and thunderstorms, which will be more numerous in interior and northern coastal areas of the central and western regions."

Furthermore, the report mentioned that the bad weather "will persist until the early hours of the night and could be severe in specific localities," with maximum temperatures ranging between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius. Additionally, INSMET noted that winds and wave heights could increase in areas experiencing showers and thunderstorms.
